How Gratitude Creates Change
Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.
2 Thessalonians 1:3 (NLT)
Have you ever received one of those notes that did more than just make you feel good but it actually changed your perspective?
It was 11 years and 248 days ago that I received one of those cards at a crucial moment in my life. (I can recall this time because I saved this card with the date on it!) This card came when I was once again overwhelmed with a nagging sense of inadequacy. The effort I was putting in to a couple of projects I was working on felt like there was a black hole sucking the very breath out of me. Then this card arrives in the mail. The person simply said, “You truly are a blessing” and then cited how I had helped them. Those few words filled me with encouragement that gave me renewed hope! This person was like the one of those angels you read about in the Bible that brought good news to a people who were trapped in their situation.
I’m not the only one impacted by this person’s ongoing action of thanking those around her. She quietly observes her surroundings looking for those she might build up with words of encouragement. Her focus of letting others know they matter is a part of who she is. I won’t mention her name because being she is not doing this for her own affirmation. She just really cares about other people.
I want to say thank you to her and many others at NewDay who continue to inspire me to love like Jesus loves. I'm looking forward to celebrating God's amazing grace to us during this advent season!
Grateful to walk in God’s grace with you,
Pastor John
