Growing Pains

Acts 6:1-7

6 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciplestogether and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

This Sunday’s service can be viewed on our Facebook page @ Sunday, October 8, 2023

Hello NewDay Friends,

It's Friday again! And, we are all looking forward to being together this Sunday. We are continuing to study the book of Acts, and learning how the early followers of Jesus did life together, in chapter 6. As the Church grew, it seems things were not always smooth sailing, as we would think, when there is numerical growth inside an organization. It seems there were Growing Pains, and it required a lot of work together, and cooperation, as well as strategy.

We will learn more this week about how the Church determined their priorities around the Why (Jesus, and the reality of the Resurrection) and paid attention to the needs of those around them. I hope that as you read this passage, and we learn together, you will continue to pray about the gifts God has given you to serve, what areas of service you are passionate about, and how we can collectively maximize our efforts, so more people can come to know Jesus, and enjoy the sweet family of God.

One last thing, please consider joining a 4 week small group this fall! We will learn more together about the Holy Spirit, and each other. The link to sign up is below, or else email me with any questions you have.
