Moving From Anxiety to Awe

Exodus 16:3-1

16 The whole Israelite community set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had come out of Egypt. 2 In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. 3 The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”

How did the people of Israel get to this point where they now are forgetting all that God had done for them up to this point? He had rescued them. He had protected them from the plagues. He had delivered them from slavery. He was guiding them by a pillar of fire at night and by a cloud during the day. God even parted the Red Sea and wiped away the Egyptian army bent on destroying them. When they were most thirsty he gave them water that went from bitter to sweet.

Now 30 days until this journey, after waiting 400 years and slaves, this is what happens...

Exodus 16:1-3
The whole Israelite community set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had come out of Egypt. In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord ’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”

Q: Why is it that they moved to grumbling and complaining and could not see the blessing of God's presence and power in their lives?

In our message for today we're going to learn some things about our human condition that I'm hoping that is becoming more clear to you especially in the environment that we find ourselves in today.
