The Call Of Peter

John 21:15-15

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

Hi NewDay Fam!

We start a new preaching series this Sunday, and will celebrate Communion together as well.
This past summer, I surveyed our Lead Team and preaching/worship planning team about which books of the Bible was of interest to study together as a church, as we wrapped up our Discipleship. 2 Peter kept coming up. And, it's one that I was least familiar with, as far as preaching goes.
As I have been studying this epistle,  I am thankful we get to embark on this journey together as a church, learning and growing together in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ,. This letter was written to encourage and exhort followers of Jesus who were facing pressures from outside the church, as well as internal pressures inside the church. The letter was written to remind the Church about the why for following Jesus, core truths about Jesus. It was also written to correct/clear up/clarify beliefs and practices that were not in alignment with the teachings of Jesus, and His Resurrection.
I believe it is a timely series for us as followers of Jesus right now, considering our pluralistic culture, and the increasing divisions that are occurring within many Christian denominations. My prayer as we read this letter, is that the Holy Spirit will work in us, as the Holy Spirit worked through Peter, as he encouraged the Church two thousand years ago.
I hope studying 2 Peter together will be a rich experience for you personally, and that the outcome will truly be growth for us as a Church family.

See you Sunday!
In Christ,
Pastor Kari
