Our Godly Life
2 Peter 1-11
1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

This week we officially dive into 2 Peter! Derek and I will be exploring this through Word and Song, and zeroing in on what it means to live a life of faith that bears fruit- fruit that is evidenced by the love of Jesus.
The past 8 weeks, Dan and I have been enjoying watching the Rings of Power each Thursday night. We are both fans of Tolkien, and this new series has used creative imagination for the characters that are in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, and the Hobbit. The introduction of the evil lord Sauron's character has been particularly interesting, as at first, Sauron appears as Lord Halbrand, and ends up deceiving everyone.
What strikes me about this movie, and the connection point to 2 Peter is that Peter's last words of encouragement to the believers who would be reading this letter was to guard against deception, and to hold fast to Jesus- keeping the main things, the main things. First, the truth and reality of the resurrection, and then how to live a life that pleases God, and is by faith alone, through His grace and forgiveness. Some points in Scripture we will be spending time in are Romans 5, Romans 10:9-10, 2 Peter 1:1-11, and Matthew 5:1-16.
I believe we encounter the same challenges to our faith in this day and age, and 2 Peter is a good reminder of what we need to anchor to as we follow Jesus together as the body of Christ.
See you Sunday!
In Christ,
Pastor Kari

Pastoral Search Committee Update
What has happened:
1. We narrowed the pool down to 2 candidates and completed 2nd virtual interviews with each of them.
2. We invited one of the candidates to visit Rochester for an in-person interview.
What's next:
1. The candidate will visit Rochester within the next 3 weeks.
2. The purpose of this visit will be for them to get a better feel for our community and for us to continue to discern together whether to bring them forward to the congregation for a candidacy weekend and vote to call them to pastor NewDay. At this visit, they will have a formal interview with the search committee, meet with financial representatives of the leadership team to cover the compensation package, meet the staff, and tour our building and the city of Rochester.
3. We will then determine whether to bring this candidate to the congregation for a candidating weekend and vote.
What you can do:
1. Please continue to pray. We are grateful for all of your prayers and especially the dedication of the Search Process Prayer Committee.
Specific prayer needs:
1. For guidance for the search committee as we move through this process of discernment as we interact in person with this applicant.
2. For our future pastor who is listening to God's calling, guidance on their decision, and safe travel.
3. For the search process to continue smoothly and for patience for our community as we move through it together.
2. Please reach out to any of us at any time with questions and thoughts.
