Growing Up in a World that Won't

Ephesians 4:11-16

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Titus 2:1-8

You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

Good Morning NewDay Friends,

Today my friend Reid Kapple, a Covenant church planter in Olathe, Kansas, posted online that for some, last week's election brought delight and relief, while for others, only frustration and angst.

Whether you're in that first group, the second, or somewhere in between, Reid reminded us that for followers of Jesus, we cannot allow ourselves to fall into "crippling despair, nor unbridled delight" since "both are indicators of a misplaced allegiance and trust." He then shared this poem/psalm from a recent Renovare newsletter:
A Psalm for America (Renovaré)
For the crestfallen and elated,
the fearful,
the hopeful,
the numb—
don’t let princes rob your peace,
don’t let heads of state have your heart;
trust in the Lord and do good,
live in the land
but dwell in the Most High.
– Brian Morykon
(Psalm 37, 146).

Since part of my day job requires me to keep up with politics, public policy, and how this all intersects with our faith, I'm flying to Washington, D.C. this week for meetings, summits and prayer gatherings, seeking a word from the Lord. And even as I catch myself doom scrolling through my news feeds, the words of the song "Firm Foundation" keep coming back to me again and again:

Christ is my firm foundation / The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken / I've never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus, / 'Cause He's never let me down
He's faithful through generations / So why would He fail now?
He won't, He won't
I've still got joy in chaos / I've got peace that makes no sense
So I won't be going under / I'm not held by my own strength
'Cause I've built my life on Jesus / He's never let me down
He's faithful in every season / So why would He fail now?
Rain came and wind blew / But my house was built on You / I'm safe with You / I'm gonna make it through.
Join us this Sunday as we worship, fellowship, and focus on a timeless message from Ephesians 4 and Titus 2. Called "Growing Up in a World that Won't," we'll explore one of Paul's key themes, that the mission of Christ's Church is to help each other grow, step by step, into the full maturity and fruitfulness Christ intends for us -- so we become "in very way more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the Church" (Ephesians 4:15b) -- for God's glory and for neighbor's good.

See you Sunday, and pray about those you can invite to join us.

Search Committee Update
November 15, 2024

What has happened:
Both or our candidate visits were productive and clarifying.  The first candidate who visited withdrew his candidacy due to fit issues around accessibility, salary, and family needs.  The second candidate declined the offer with the insight that NewDay is ready to be a church plant again and  10his skills and gifts were not a match.

What’s next:

  1. The NW Conference currently doesn’t have more referrals for interim or full-time Covenant pastors.

  2. The Leadership Team is discerning next steps.

  3. The Search Committee is not working at this time.

What you can do;
Please continue to pray for the NewDay community , staff, and leadership.

Leadership Team Update

What has happened:
The Leadership Team held a family meeting last Sunday, November 10, where the Search Committee gave an update and shared what was learned during the search process.  The Leadership Team then led a time of discussion concerning the possible options going forward.  There were no decisions made as it was a time to share and gather information.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the meeting and participate.

What’s next:
The Leadership Team will meet on Wednesday, November 20, to debrief the family meeting and begin discerning the next steps for NewDay.  We will continue to keep the NewDay informed throughout the discernment process.

What you can do:
Continue to be faithful in prayer and community.
