Gratitude

Luke 17:11-19

11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”

14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.

15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

Good Morning NewDay Friends,

Let me begin this greeting with gratitude.
Gratitude for you, and the ways you have been faithfully serving and following Jesus together, and seeking Him as a church family.

Dan, Jake, Andrew and I have experienced so many blessings while we have been with you over this interim period.  I echo words the Apostle Paul shared with the church in Thessalonica, "Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well." (1 Thess. 2:8)  Thank you for partnering in the mission of God together, and sharing your lives with our family.

As this interim period continues, our family will continue to pray for you, seek God with you, and work hard in this "in between time" we are having as a church, awaiting what's next, a new pastor, and all that God has for NewDay. Thank you for your prayers, your service and encouraging one another.

This week, we will take a pause before Advent begins December 1 (YES. It is ALMOST Advent. I can't believe it either. The snow this week is reminding us December is coming).
We will be spending some time together as a church examining the Spiritual practice of gratitude. God's timing is always right on!  I was blessed to teach 2 classes on Gratitude today, and it just so happens, it's our topic for Sunday.

Gratitude is more than just saying thank you. There's actually quite a bit of research prevailing on the positive effects on our mental health as we practice gratitude. That comes as no surprise to me, as we know God is the one from whom all goodness comes, and when we express gratitude out of hearts full of love, appreciation, being valued and valuing, we do feel better, and acknowledge the One who gives it all!

Gratitude is really good for us. I am excited to share more with you from a mental and emotional health viewpoint, and from God's Word. We will spend some time in the Gospels and in the Psalms, perusing examples of gratitude. If you want to get a jump start on these passages for Sunday, here you go:
Luke 17:11-19
Luke 8:2-39
Luke 7:3-50
Philippians 4:4-9; 10-15;14-2
1 Thessalonians 5:1-18
Psalm 95 & & Psalm 100, 103, 104, 105

I give God thanks and praise for His Love, and the Love He so generously gives to us. May you be blessed as you read His Word, and return thanks to Him.

This Sunday we will celebrate Communion together as well! Please take time to prepare your hearts, and anticipate sharing the Lord's Supper with joy.

See you Sunday!
